The Law Has Changed

Following Brexit, the rules for selling alcohol in the UK have shifted. The old 'CE' mark is being replaced by the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessment) mark for goods placed on the market in Great Britain.

If you are a licensed venue, festival, or stadium, it is your legal responsibility to ensure your glassware is compliant.

The Risk: Using unmarked or unverified cups for measured alcohol sales is a breach of the Weights & Measures Act 1985. This can lead to fines of up to £2,000 per offence, equipment seizure, and a review of your premises licence.

Brim vs. Line: Which Do You Need?

We offer two types of legal measure, depending on your pouring style:

TypeDefinitionBest For
Pint to BrimThe cup holds exactly one pint when filled to the absolute top edge.Hand-pulled ales, where no 'head' is required, or when using an automated dispenser.
Pint to LineThe cup is larger than a pint, with a visible line marking the pint level.Lagers and ciders that require a 'head' of foam (Oversized cup allows for foam without short-measuring).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I still need CE marks?
If you operate in Northern Ireland or the EU, yes. In Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales), the UKCA mark is the new standard. Eco Cups can provide dual-marked vessels to cover all markets (please contact us for details).

Can I use a normal plastic cup?
Only if you are using a Government Stamped dispenser (optic) or meter. If you are free-pouring from a tap or can/bottle, the cup must be the legal measure.
